If the earth is young then how are the geological rock layers explained along with all the fossils they contain?  Old earth evolutionists are not comfortable with the idea of a global flood, it grants too much credibility to the Bible and leaves one having to be accountable to God.  But there is nothing unscientific about such a catastrophic flood theory.

A flood goes a very long way to explaining the things found in the fossil record, in fact flood geology pretty much covers the distance.  Of course opponents of this explanation are quite skeptical that water could have ever covered the whole earth.  Honest skepticism is a good thing and can always be detected when the skeptic can tell us what it would take to satisfy his requirements.  The dishonest skeptic, however, will always remain unconvinced.

Of course such a flood has a drastic impact on the supposed age of the earth.  Such an event could have caused the geologic layers to form very quickly, explaining transverse fossils.  It also makes sense of the order of the fossil layers, small creatures at the bottom with larger ones toward the top.  Clearly this collapses the multi-billion year time frame required by evolution.  It also enables us to take the Bible at its word concerning many issues that evolution has tried for so long to discredit.
